Forget tinnitus and arthritis, the most dangerous affliction that can affect a fan of rock and metal is the curse of the earworm. That little bastard who crawls inside your head and gets that one little bit of a song stuck in there, rooted so deep that it will eventually drive you crazy, especially if you can't work out what the song is. Even worse than this however, is the pop song earworm, that irritating repetitive pop chorus or little bit of professional song writing genius that hooks your brain and scrambles it.
Personally, that latter always happens to me, out and about in town, if I manage to hear 'Edge of Heaven' by Wham! that's it, I will be unfortunately humming that arsehole of a song for days and this will happen to you all, not with Wham!, but with something else... search yourself, you know it to be true. Strangely, yesterday, I read an article about 'Slippery When Wet' by Bon Jovi turning 31 years old and there boom, without hearing the album, a strange earworm, the keyboard intro to 'Let It Rock'. That little bastard was there again, chomping away on my cerebral matter and that is the scary thing about earworms, they strike when least expected, you can wake up with an earworm, go to bed with an earworm, sit on the toilet and boom! earworm. When will the medical community wake up and realise that we are suffering every day with an unknown auditory affliction. The earworm can also be a repeat offender, this is the most dangerous earworm, the earworm that lays dormant, awakens, causes bother and then goes back to sleep. Currently, I am suffering from two 'Repeatis earwormis', one is the introductory drum beat to 'Why Go' by Pearl Jam, the secondary is much deeper. It is 'Greensleeves', at least three times a year, the 'Greensleeves' earworm wakes from its slumber to cause me agony and unfortunately, I have had this for over 15 years, with the 'Greensleeves' earworm last striking for an entire summer. Other than earworms, last week was quite productive, reviews for the latest Dream Evil, DragonForce and Unleash the Archers have been completed and sent for publishing, 3 very good albums in my humble opinion. Next up for the week are reviews for The Ferrymen's debut album and the latest album from Adrenaline Mob. However, Today will be dedicated to setting up the upcoming 'Metalheads Forever' monthly Spotify playlist, which is cool and something that I am massively looking forward to running. The playlist will contain a mix of everything that you are used to reading about in MHF, songs from new albums by bands, older stuff celebrating anniversaries and a few surprises. Stay tuned on this front. later droogs

There are two things that I am avoiding today;
1. The continual uploading of reviews into the portfolio on this site. As much as I am proud of my work, the uploading so that everyone can read it is mine numbingly boring and both David and Serhan must have the patience of saints when it comes to the uploading of articles onto Metalheads Forever. As we say here in the north of England, they're top blokes and do a fantastic job. 2. The pile of dishes and mugs that are piling up at the side of the sink, as well as the floors need a good vacuum. Because of this, I am creeping around the house like a housework ninja, avoiding all eye contact with the ever growing pile. The big question is, how can two people use so many mugs unbeknownst? On the plus side, the review of the latest album by Unleash the Archers has been completed and emailed off to publishing at MHF. We're over halfway through the year now and 'Apex' is looking like it will join a list of the best albums released this year, going up against the likes of Kreator, Horisont, Helker, Vampire and Warbringer, but who knows what the latter half of the year will bring. So what now? Well, the day will consist of avoiding #2, whilst doing #1 until the overwhelming need to clean overrides #1 and #2 commences. All the while, listening to the latest albums from Dream Evil, DragonForce, The Ferrymen and Adrenaline Mob. Why? Well another interesting tidbit of information from the life of the hermit known as Adam McCann, Monday-Thursday is spent listening to albums that are due for review, an album review from myself is not constructed after 1/2 listens, it is created after eating and digesting what i've heard, based on the fact that albums can be instant fuck yeahs! and tail off very quickly or can be quite the opposite, a slow burner that doesn't quite click at first. The weekend is my time, Friday-Sunday is the time I spend listening to stuff that I want to listen to, the time I crack out the classics or listen to albums from the last few years. Enjoy your day and feel free to ask me questions, they will be a welcome distraction! later droogs Well, here it is. The day that I have been procrastinating on for over 2 weeks now.
This is my personal blog attached to the portfolio, a place less formal than the other pages. This is where I can be less formal; ask and answer silly trivial questions about music and where I can actually mentions my personal life and opinions. First off, i'd like to give a massive shout out to my other half, Rachel, who without her support, I would never have found the confidence to begin writing again and for putting up with music she doesn't like whilst i'm up until all hours working on reviews and articles. You're the best. Today is going to be very busy and very much, on the go. The constant uploading of articles that I have written over the past 2 years is a lot and I also get to see the very cringe worthy first few articles eeew! All this will be accompanied with a side salad of some heavy metal albums, kicking off with the fantastic 'Master of Puppets', one of the best heavy metal albums of all time, as cliched as that is. So here is the first little tidbit about myself. I actually dislike just listening to songs on shuffle, there is something simple about putting an album on and letting it play through, you get an overall feel for the band at that point in time. I actually detest driving, it causes me a lot of undue stress and I prefer to not do it, only driving when it is necessary for myself to do so. However, in my younger years, I paid to have my first generation iPod connected to the car and found myself endlessly shuffling, there was a straw that broke the camels back and many years on, I can't remember what it was, but I promised myself that I would appreciate albums as a whole. That was one of the deciding factors that set me on my path of writing. Anyway, enough procrastination, back to work. Later droogs |
